Kittery, the Gateway to Maine

Settled in the early 1600s, Kittery is Maine's oldest community. A seaside town, its natural attributes of islands and inlets, beaches and bays are not only beautiful, but have contributed to its history and an economy centered on fishing, shipbuilding, and other marine-related industries.

With a cluster of 100-plus premiere outlet stores, the town has become famous as a Mecca for shoppers. Kittery sits on the northern bank of the Piscataqua River and looks across to Portsmouth, NH on the opposite side. Together with the town of York to the north, the area has a full complement of essential services, natural and historic charms and many recreational, tourist and social opportunities. Boston is about 60 miles to the south and is an easy hop by bus and train as well as car. See So Much To Do for more on the Kittery Area.
